Members of the African Women in Animal Resources Farming and Agribusiness Network - Benin (AWARFA-N BENIN) met on July 10, 2021, for their General Assembly at the Directorate of Livestock, Akpakpa (Cotonou – Benin). Over 20 women were drawn from all over Benin in regions like Abomey-Calavi, Porto-novo, Allada, Ganvié, Tori, Zinvié, Athiémé, Parakou, N'Dali, in addition to attendees from Cotonou.
The women are involved in different agribusinesses, such as poultry, beekeeping, cattle, small ruminants, fisheries, and aquaculture.
The Beninese Representations of the AWARFA-N Network, headed by Ms. Célia FIOGBE, Chairperson, have mobilized women working in the livestock and agro-industry of animal resources. Uniting this group of women will strengthen their capacities to meet the challenges that hinder more significant investment and wealth creation by women in livestock and the agro-industry of animal resources.
The general assembly also provided an opportunity for the AWARFA-N Benin network to validate its statute, internal regulations, and information to continue the registration of AWARFA-N BENIN in the official journal.
With the European Union's financial support, AU-BAR is providing support to national networks in formalizing and launching their network. This support also equips networks to develop their strategic and business plans for submission to potential donors. Benin becomes the fourth country to launch; after Ghana, Zambia, Zimbabwe.
