Illegal slaughter and supply of donkey meat into eateries in Nairobi County has been termed as a danger to public health. Brooke East Africa Regional Director Dr. Raphael Kinoti says while it can be argued that donkey hide is edible, if the meat is uninspected; it is a health risk as studies have shown that donkeys are a carrier for over 16 disease causing germs. Brooke East Africa is a nongovernmental organization that promotes the welfare of Donkeys in Kenya, Somaliland, South Sudan, Tanzania and part of Northern Uganda.
